Royal Highlands Bicycle Club
Royal Highlands Bike Club
January 9, 2025
The monthly meeting of the RH Bike Club was called to order by President Tom Dixon
at 4:00 p.m. in the Rec. center meeting room. Twelve club members were present.
The minutes from the December meeting were read. It was confirmed that community
rides are M-W-S and trail rides are on Wednesday. Barb Kowalski moved to accept the
minutes as read, seconded by Tony Frankson. Minutes were accepted.
Treasurer Jerry Freisinger reported a balance of $206.82 in the club treasury. He stated
that there are currently 13 households with 21 individuals as members. Bob Smith
moved to accept this Report, seconded by Lynda Streight. Motion passed.
Tom reminded everyone about the Pedal and Play organized ride in Punta Gorda on
March 21. Those interested will pursue this activity on their own.
He then presented updated information on the overnight club trip for April. Initially the
thought was to return to Dunedin to ride the Pinellas Trail, but Tom reported that the
room rate for the Holiday Inn Express on the trail is $286/night for the date of our proposed
trip, which is April 29 - May 1. He presented other alternatives for lodging in the
greater Dunedin/Clearwater area including the Grant Street Inn which was $240/night.
Tom also highlighted the cycling options if we returned but stayed in another hotel in this
area: Duke Energy Trail and Drind Road trail as well as ability to intersect and ride the
Pinellas Trail at some point.
Tom presented another option, including returning to the Nature Coast/Gainesville area,
staying at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Gainesville. Current member rate with
free cancellation 2 days prior to arrival for this property is $182/night including taxes.
Tom will attempt to call the hotel to see if there is a lower group rate.
A final decision on the overnight trip was tabled until next month’s meeting.
Some of the group present agreed to do a community ride on Friday, Jan. 10 at 12:30
p.m.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:40 p.m. with 9 attendees
adjourning to dinner at Oakwood Smokehouse.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Smith, Secretary
